Luxembourg Palace

The palace originally built by Marie de Medicis served at various times as a museum and a prison. The present Senate has adapted it to the requirements of a modern political assembly while scrupulously respecting the decorative harmony of this jewel of Parisian architecture.

Tour of the Petit Luxembourg (Presidential Building)

The Petit Luxembourg today has two wings. The décor of the Boffrand Salons, which are located in the first wing, is unchanged since the early 18th century. The second wing, also built by Boffrand, has been the residence of the presidents of the upper chamber since 1825. For almost forty years they have been engaged in restoring their residence, especially the Chapel Royal, and in maintaining the Winter Garden, which connects the Petit Luxembourg with the Luxembourg Gardens, reputed to be the world’s most beautiful park.

The Luxembourg Gardens are well known to all Parisians. Stroll along the pathways, experience the sights and sounds, and admire the many marvels to be found in these 57 acres.
