Palais de Chaillot


Walking down the Avenue Kleber from the Arc de Triomphe we arrive at Trocadero where we find the Palais de Chaillot with its impressive water canons. This Palais, rather modern as it was constructed in 1939, is not a real palace as its name would give. Its two wings house a naval museum and the Theatre Nationale de Chaillot. Our photo is that of the Palais through the feet of the Eiffel Tower in front.

Below, almost hidden is a movie theater (or "cinematheque") and cinema museum which is accessed from the gardens. Films of all eras are shown, so serious film aficionados and students of film making will find their film-program interesting as well as the museum's splendid review of costumes, mock-ups and other artifacts of French film making.

From the large Terrace the view of the Eiffel Tower, the Champs de Mars and, further on, the Ecole Militaire is breathtaking. Careful, though, of the kids on skateboards! It is from this terrace that numerous commercials promoting French products are made and ultimately shown across the world. We have nearly concluded our virtual tour. It is not possible to include all that Paris has to offer - the choice is awesome. Still, there are a few other places which may interest you.
