
Few other towns in Provence combine all the region's charm as well as Arles.
Its position on the Rhône makes it a natural, historic gateway to the Camargue. Its Roman remains, such us the Arena and Constantine's Baths, are complemented by the ochre walls and Roman-tiled roofs of later buildings.

The Espace Van Gogh is a former hospital where the artist was treated in
1889. It is now a cultural centre devoted to his life and work.

Van Gogh spent time here in 1888 and 1889, but Arles is no longer the industrial town he painted. Visitors are now its main business, and entertainment ranges from the Arles Festival to bullfights.
